Paubox helps customers fulfill their HIPAA obligations by providing these covered entities or business associates with appropriate configuration options to help safeguard their electronic Protected Health Information (ePHI) from misuse and wrongful disclosure.
A part of this protection includes the back up and archiving of sent email. These two levels of protection are often thought of as being the same, when in fact they’re quite different. Even the term “Back-up” is often used synonymously with “Restore” as those two actions are often interrelated…so, what is the difference between these?
Paubox performs an initial “copy” of your Paubox hosted email for each user associated with your account. From there, Paubox does what is a called a “Diff”; which simply means we only copy the additional changes (differences) between the two files. NOTE: we only take the additions and not what has been deleted. This is important when it comes to the process for doing a restore and to protect you from accidental or malicious deleting of emails.
Paubox is able to “restore” emails to your account that may have been accidentally or maliciously deleted on a given date. Performing a restore is a resource intensive process and is performed by our Professional Services team as a “Chargeable Service”.
Paubox DLP (Data, Loss, Prevention) is an automated email archiving process for preserving and protecting outbound email messages (as well as attachments and metadata) so they can be accessed at a later date should the need arise. The benefits of email archiving include the aiding in recovery of lost or accidentally deleted emails, accelerated audit response, and preservation of intellectual property.
